Bremen (dpa / lni) - The Verdi union in Bremen has called for an immediate conversion of daycare centers to emergency care.
The decision as to whether children should be looked after in daycare centers should not simply be passed on to the parents, said Verdi spokeswoman Kornelia Knieper on Monday.
In view of the continued high number of infections, politicians must give clear guidance, take responsibility and immediately switch the offerings in day care centers to emergency care.
"For the phase of tightened lockdown, the childcare offer in day-care centers must be limited to children of employees, for example in the health care system, critical infrastructure and food retail," said Knieper.
This protects children, parents and educators alike.
Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD) made it clear on Sunday that the daycare centers would remain open.
The children could stay at home, however, as daycare is not compulsory anyway.
The parents are called upon as far as there is the possibility to look after the children at home.
