Schwerin (dpa / mv) - According to Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has prepared for the start of corona vaccinations by setting up twelve vaccination centers nationwide.

So far, after a call, more than 300 volunteers have registered to work, including a good 200 doctors.

There have been further reports directly from the districts and the aid organizations and the Bundeswehr have also promised extensive support.

"This commitment is a great social achievement," said Glawe on Monday in Schwerin.

The federal states had asked the federal government to create the conditions for a rapid start of mass vaccinations against the corona virus by mid-December.

"The fastest possible approval of the corona vaccines is crucial," emphasized Glawe.

This is expected for the end of December.

Then the immunizations can be started.

The aim is to reach 60 to 70 percent of the population.

According to the minister, vaccinations will be a top priority in old people's and nursing homes.

For this purpose, 40 mobile vaccination teams are planned across the country, which will then be deployed in the homes.

The vaccination centers would then open depending on the amount of vaccination doses provided.

According to earlier information, around 50,000 vaccinations per week are planned nationwide to begin with, initially for high-risk patients and medical staff.

The federal government bears the costs for the vaccines, the state, municipalities and health insurance companies finance the vaccination accessories, the staff and the establishment and operation of the vaccination centers.
