The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said that he had assured the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Qatar's position in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause.

In a tweet on Twitter, Sheikh Tamim wrote, "I confirmed to President Abu Mazen, during our meeting today, on Qatar's stance in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause, and in support of achieving peace on the basis of the Arab initiative, the two-state solution, and international legitimacy decisions ... I also emphasized the importance of the unity of the Palestinian ranks."

This came after talks held by the two sides on Monday in Doha, which dealt with the most prominent developments in the situation in Palestine, and developments related to the Palestinian issue.

The two leaders discussed developments in the Middle East peace process.

The Emir of Qatar stressed Qatar’s firm stance towards the Palestinian cause, stressing his support for the Palestinian people and their just cause.

At the conclusion of his visit to Doha, President Abbas appreciated the role of the State of Qatar in support of the Palestinian people in achieving their rights and establishing their independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.

He added that the Emir of the State of Qatar is aware of the latest developments related to the Palestinian cause.

The visit came at a time when Gulf states were rushing to normalize relations with Israel.

Earlier, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani addressed his country's position on the issue of normalization, saying that the Arab countries that establish normalization relations with Israel undermine efforts to establish a Palestinian state.

He stressed that there is a need to form a united Arab front to put the interests of the Palestinians first to end the Israeli occupation.
