In an interview with Le Figaro newspaper to be published on Monday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that the recent normalization of relations between Israel and a number of Arab countries is "good news", calling for "launching initiatives" to revive the peace process in Middle east.

Under the auspices of the US President Donald Trump's administration, 4 Arab countries, namely the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco, last Thursday, established diplomatic relations with Israel in recent months.

"We agree on everything that contributes to calm in this region of the world, especially the normalization of relations between Israel and these countries," Minister Le Drian said in his interview, which will be published on Monday.

"This calm should be used to start a new phase. This may be the right time to launch initiatives," he added, recalling France's adherence to "resuming negotiations in the conflict in the Middle East and the necessity (to reach) a two-state solution.

He indicated that he would meet "soon" with his German, Jordanian and Egyptian counterparts "to consider resuming the talks."
