A rain of shooting stars will fall tonight and will be observable from France in good weather conditions.

Schedule, conditions and viewing comfort ... Europe 1 reminds you how to make the most of this spectacle which will then no longer be visible until next year.

Like every year at the same period, around December 13 and 14, therefore, the Geminids will fall on France tonight.

So don't worry if you can't get to sleep tonight.

If the weather permits, you will be able to observe this rain of shooting stars.

How? 'Or' What ?

First of all, you will have to observe the sky at a particular time, between one and two in the morning.

For Olivier Las Vergnas, president of the French Astronomical Association, it is "then to move away from parasitic lights", as he recalled Sunday evening on Europe 1.

"A very beautiful sight to the naked eye"

The specialist also advises to "settle down comfortably, especially in December, as it is not very hot".

"For example, you have to sit on a lounge chair and put on a blanket strong enough to look comfortably for ten or fifteen minutes," he adds.

And no need for special instruments to enjoy the event: "It's a very beautiful show to the naked eye."

"At most nearly a hundred shooting stars"

"It is a swarm of shooting stars which is very visible", continues Olivier Las Vergnas.

"There can be at most almost a hundred shooting stars for an hour in the middle of the night."

"It is linked to an asteroid, Phaeton, which in its rotations around the Sun leaves filaments of dust, a bit like tire tracks on a car circuit," he explains.

"And every year at that time, we encounter dust because we pass through these filaments."

No panic for the unfortunate under the clouds so it's only a postponement.
