A weather alert and the risk of a dangerous thunderstorm interrupted the final round of the 75th US Open Women's Golf on Sunday at the Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas, and there was a good chance the final Major of the year ends Monday.

The 22-year-old Japanese Hinako Shibuno, victorious in the 2019 British Open Women's, led at that time with a total score of 209 after three rounds, or four strokes under par.

She has never played at the US Open and won the British last year on her first appearance.

Nicknamed the "Smiling Cinderella," Shibuno won the Japanese LPGA Tour four times last year.

The schedules had been brought forward but she still could not take the start on Sunday, the game being interrupted 25 minutes before she was summoned to tee number 1.

This event had already been postponed from June to December due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it has been taking place behind closed doors since Thursday, for the same reasons.
