Berlin (dpa / bb) - In view of the tough lockdown from December 16 to contain the corona pandemic, Berlin's economy is calling for accompanying measures.

"The protection of life and the prevention of a collapse of our health system have priority, but the imposition of lockdown alone is not enough," said the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Beatrice Kramm, on Sunday.

"If the massive restrictions are to achieve their goal, politics in the federal and state levels must consistently monitor compliance with the rules and immediately and strictly sanction violations."

On the other hand, the companies affected needed fast and unbureaucratic support.

"Berlin must be ready to help particularly affected companies that fall through the funding grid of federal aid quickly with additional grant programs," demanded Kramm.

"Many companies and self-employed people can no longer wait long for the money they have promised, because after this year of disaster they are literally up to their necks."

The federal and state governments had agreed in the morning at a switch with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) on a hard lockdown from Wednesday to January 10th with the closure of many shops, schools and daycare centers.
