Halle (AP) - The man who is said to have kidnapped a six-year-old girl in Halle last Sunday and thrown into the hall has been in custody since Saturday noon.

A judge had previously followed the prosecutor's application for arrest, said prosecutor Klaus Wiechmann of the German press agency.

The 24-year-old from Halle was then taken to a prison.

On Friday noon, the police stopped the suspect at his workplace.

After the manhunt with a phantom image, numerous clues were received, reported Wiechmann.

"Several people recognized the accused in the picture."

The man's distinctive hairstyle made recognition easier.

The man was also easily recognizable on recordings from surveillance cameras through the partly shaved and partly colored hair.

In addition, further traces burdened the arrested man.

A nine-member investigation team called "Elsa" had previously dealt intensively with the case.

According to the investigation, the six-year-old was seen in the family apartment at around 7:30 that morning.

When her disappearance was noticed, she was reported missing.

The suspect is said to have carried the little girl mostly in his arms through Halle's city center.

The girl was only wearing pajamas in the cool temperatures.

According to the information, she lives with her parents a few hundred meters from the Saale.

Two joggers discovered the child in the river at around 8:30 a.m. last Sunday and took it out of the cold water.

Before that, calls for help could be heard.

The police initially had no knowledge of the girl's health on Saturday.

According to information from the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, the girl was taken to a hospital after the rescue, so there was no danger to her life.

According to the sheet, the suspect broke into the family's home and kidnapped and injured the girl.

Accordingly, the accused should be a criminal record.

The allegations at the time had nothing to do with pedophilia or violence against children, writes the newspaper.
