Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Despite the restrictions in the Corona crisis, the Schwerin Zoo is expecting an increase in visitors this year.

The numbers were slightly above the previous year's result and correspond to the continuous growth of the past few years, the facility announced on request on Saturday.

The deficits from the omission of the start of the season in spring could therefore be compensated for in the course of the year.

Initially, the zoo did not provide any concrete figures.

In contrast to other leisure facilities such as theaters, fitness studios and museums, zoos and animal parks in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can so far still open in the corona part lockdown, at least their outdoor areas.

However, guided tours and public animal feedings could not be offered, according to the Schwerin Zoo.

In addition, secondary business such as gastronomy is severely restricted.

The Rostock zoo, on the other hand, is assuming fewer visitors this year.

“We expect a significant decrease in visitors for 2020 overall.

This is of course largely due to the temporary lack of tourists and day visitors, ”said zoo director Udo Nagel.

On the other hand, there was an increase in annual tickets.
