Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the committee of inquiry into the affair about the financing of the Expo pavilion, culture minister and CDU top candidate for the state elections, Susanne Eisenmann, will be questioned next Friday.
The committee decided on Friday evening.
Committee chairman Jürgen Filius confirmed a corresponding report in the “Badischer Tagblatt” on Saturday.

If two opposition factions wanted witnesses to be questioned, the government majority could not prevent this under the committee rules, explained Filius.
The background to the affair is the question of whether the country has also become a contractual partner of the expo organizers in Dubai or not through a contract with the Expo company.
The project company, which includes the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Engineers, the Freiburg Exhibition Center and the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization, actually wanted to finance the pavilion entirely with the help of companies.
She had declared it as a project “from business for business”.
Because sponsors withdrew their promises, the country stepped in.
The estimated total costs for the construction and operation of the pavilion as well as for participation in the Expo are currently expected to be 15 million euros.
Originally, 2.8 million euros were assumed.
The world exhibition is to take place from October 1, 2021 to the end of March 2022.

According to the paper's report, Eisenmann had campaigned for the project several times and, as the coordinator of the CDU government work, was also involved in decisions on the assumption of liabilities by the state.
