Reutlingen (dpa) - The tablecloth between Tübingen's Lord Mayor Boris Palmer and the Greens actually seemed already cut.

But now there is a rapprochement - at least verbally.

After Palmer had declared in an interview that he would like a "reconciliation", said Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann on the sidelines of the party conference on Saturday in Reutlingen: "I am always for reconciliation."

And: "The reconciliation process has already started."

He didn't give any details.

Baden-Württemberg's Green Party leader Andreas Schwarz also told the dpa: "Reconciliation is always good."

His party decided on an ambitious climate program at the party congress.

"Boris Palmer's climate protection activities in Tübingen fit in well with this."

However, the two state chairmen Sandra Detzer and Oliver Hildenbrand stated that the decision of the state board that Palmer would be advised to leave and no longer supported would apply unchanged.

Palmer had told the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Saturday) that he wanted to be “party friends” again.

The state and federal executive board of the Greens suggested that Palmer quit the party in May - because of his controversial statements about older people in the corona pandemic ("We may save people in Germany who would be dead in six months anyway").

With the board resolution, the chair was put in front of the door, this resolution has not yet been reversed, said Palmer.

"But I would like a reconciliation."

He had apologized for what he said.

The Tübingen mayor is currently being praised across all parties for the particular protection of older people in the university town.

Federal party leader Robert Habeck recently announced on the ZDF program “Markus Lanz” that there would be no formal party exclusion proceedings against Palmer.

"The drop is sucked."

That is also a good thing.

However, the wounds in the party have not yet healed because Palmer has blatantly violated the party's line.

“He alienated a lot of people.

He hurt a lot of people. "

It remains that the Greens would not support him if Palmer wanted to run again as Tübingen OB in 2022.

"He's doing his thing anyway."

At the same time, the Tübingen mayor with his practical corona policy for the elderly showed that he meant it differently than in his statement in May, said Habeck.

So it started a “learning process” at Palmer.

«Boris does his thing.

He's doing well, ”said Habeck.

«Boris seems to have drawn a conclusion from this, which I observe with interest.

But that's how everyone does their job. "
