  According to reports, Aoba broke into the first studio of "Kyoto Animation" at around 10:30 on July 18, 2019.

He was suspected of spilling gasoline for arson, which eventually caused 36 deaths and 33 injuries, the worst disaster since the Heisei era.

Aoba himself was treated in the hospital for severe burns. It was not until May 2020 that the Japanese police officially arrested Aoba on suspicion of murder and arson.
