Saarbrücken (AP) - The director Wim Wenders (75, "The sky over Berlin") receives the honorary award for services to the young German-language film of the Max-Ophüls-Filmfestival in Saarbrücken.

As a central actor in film history and the present day, Wenders has been pursuing his artistic vision for more than half a century, the organizers in Saarland announced on Friday as a justification.

Wenders links his work in a unique way with the subsequent generation of films.

The recorded award ceremony will be shown during the online opening of the 42nd Max Ophüls Preis film festival on January 17, 2021.

Born in Düsseldorf, Wenders has been President of the European Film Academy since 1996 and was one of the co-founders of the German Film Academy in 2003.

He has received several international awards for films such as “Paris, Texas” and “Buena Vista Social Club”.
