Now Markus Eisenbichler is reaching for World Cup gold.

After his strong start to the season with two individual victories, the 29-year-old Bavarian is one of the biggest favorites when flying in Planica.

How good he is, he already demonstrated as the qualifying winner with 225.5 meters.

Team colleague Karl Geiger is also part of the extended group of candidates.

The Austrian Stefan Kraft (back problems), ex-champion Severin Freund (not nominated) and the two Swiss Dominik Peter and Gregor Deschwanden, who are in quarantine after a positive test by their coach Ronny Hornschuh, cannot be there.

"My grandmother could probably do better," said Denise Herrmann after the historical debacle of the German ski hunters in Hochfilzen last year.

The ex-world champion was the best German female ski hunter in 41st place in the opening sprint.

"It can't go on like this," said Bernd Eisenbichler, the new Sports Director at the time, and said: "It's like a 0: 4 in football against Austria."

In the course of the winter everything turned out to be good for the ski hunters.

There have already been podiums this season.

But with the traditional World Cup in Tyrol, the team still has one bill still open.

The German skeleton are aiming for the podium at the World Cup in Innsbruck / Igls.

The 1976 Olympia track should suit fast starters like Felix Keisinger in particular.

Christopher Grotheer as well as Jacqueline Lölling and Tina Herrmann have already had very good experiences there.

It is unclear whether the team will quickly find the rhythm despite the few training units due to the track preparation and snowfall.
