Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate state government is pushing for an earlier corona vaccination for police officers, firefighters and disaster relief workers.

In particular, employees who directly contribute to the fight against pandemics in the police or in state crisis management should be among the first to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health on Friday for the German Press Agency in Mainz.

Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) and the other interior ministers of the federal states also want to campaign for this after a decision on Thursday.

The Ministry of Health also sees "considerable problems in the practical implementation of the very differentiated recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) with regard to groups of people at risk."

The Stiko at the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin has presented a draft vaccination strategy.

Thereafter, older people over 80, nursing home residents and certain staff with a high risk of infection should be vaccinated at the start.

This corresponds to around 8.6 million people.

The federal states and medical societies were able to comment on this.

The main goal in Rhineland-Palatinate is to give people with a very high and high risk of seriously ill or dying vaccinations as a matter of urgency, emphasized the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health.

People at high risk of becoming infected should also be vaccinated early - especially staff in medical facilities.

In order to support the implementation of the vaccination recommendations, Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD) has founded an ethics advisory board for corona vaccinations.

The committee is made up of experts on medical, legal and ethical issues.
