Munich (AP) - In the doping trial against the doctor Mark S. and four co-defendants, a verdict is due to fall on January 15.

The Munich Regional Court announced on Friday.

The defense attorneys had previously agreed to refrain from personal interviews with nine outstanding witnesses - including seven athletes.

Instead, earlier testimony should be read from those witnesses.

This can speed up the process;

However, unlike originally planned, the process cannot be ended before Christmas.

"That would be the master plan that I throw into the room," said the presiding judge Marion Tischler after the criminal chamber had already held a non-public consultation with the defendants' lawyers and public prosecutor Kai Gräber on Wednesday afternoon.

Accordingly, the taking of evidence, including a number of readings and interviews with two experts, should be completed in the coming week.

The closing arguments are scheduled for January 8, one week before the planned verdict.
