Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The Left parliamentary group in Saxony-Anhalt is calling for additional help for people with low incomes in the Corona crisis.

"We have to be careful that social peace does not fly around our ears now," said parliamentary group leader Eva von Angern on Friday the German press agency.

In view of the sharp rise in the number of infections, they assume that a hard lockdown is inevitable.

"We absolutely need uniform regulations", demanded von Angern.

An inconsistent approach by the federal states endangers the acceptance of the measures in the population.

The corona pandemic is exacerbating poverty and social inequality enormously, said von Angern.

Single parents, the unemployed, people with low incomes as well as large families and pensioners are particularly affected by the crisis.

The Left therefore wants to demand in the state parliament that the short-time work allowance be raised to 100 percent regardless of the duration of the payment and that the Hartz IV standard rate be raised to 644 euros.

In addition, the Left Group calls for a basic old-age security and income-independent child security.

Students will also be equipped with computers and printers for distance learning.

Like the Greens, the opposition party is calling for face-to-face teaching in schools to be suspended for the time being.

Education Minister Marco Tullner (CDU) rejects this, however, referring to the right to education and bad experiences with distance learning in the spring.

The state parliament is likely to deal extensively with the pandemic again next week, and another round from the federal and state governments is expected at the weekend.
