Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Christmas parties will probably only be allowed in North Rhine-Westphalia with a maximum of five people from up to two households.

NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) promoted a corresponding nationwide restriction in Düsseldorf on Friday.

Originally, easing was planned for the Christmas days in NRW and family celebrations with up to ten people were promised.

Laschet also doesn't want any public parties on New Year's Eve.

"There can be no meetings in public places on New Year's Eve," he said.

The same person restriction must also apply at the turn of the year.

In view of the persistently high number of corona infections, earlier contact restrictions are now necessary. "We need an all-German answer." Laschet urges that the prime ministers decide "as soon as possible" with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) on a nationwide hard lockdown. The conversation should best come off on Saturday, he said. "The lockdown must come as soon as possible."
