Harrison Ford, 78, will don the iconic Indiana Jones hat once again for the fifth and final installment of the Adventures of the Intrepid Archaeologist, due in theaters in 2022, Disney officially announced, making thousands happy on Friday. of fans on social networks.

"We are in the pre-production phase for the next and final episode of Indiana Jones. (...) And of course Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will be back to complete this legendary character's journey." , Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said at a conference organized by the Disney group for its investors on Thursday.

Unlike previous episodes, Steven Spielberg, initially planned as a director but since relegated to production, will no longer be behind the camera.

Instead, it is James Mangold ("Logan", "Le Mans 66") who will be at the helm of the fifth opus of the saga, said Kathleen Kennedy.

Filming is scheduled to begin in spring 2021 for a release scheduled for July 2022.

It was in 1981 that Harrison Ford, already made famous at the time by his role as Han Solo in "Star Wars", took on the role of Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark", under the Steven Spielberg's crook.

A worldwide success, the film gave rise to two other equally popular episodes, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" in 1984 and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" in 1989, with the late Sean Connery in the role of father of the archaeologist.

A fourth part, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", financial success but received freshly by the critics and part of the fans of the first hour, was released in 2008, still with Harrison Ford.

Disney had announced in 2016 the continuation and end of Indy's adventures with a release initially scheduled for 2019, but the project has accumulated delays due to differences between the producers, the writers and Steven Spielberg, then more recently the Covid pandemic -19 which upset the calendar of big Hollywood productions.
