A prerequisite for the travel center in Västerås to be able to be built is that the state finances the reconstruction of the railway yard.

The Government Offices now recommends that Västerås receive SEK 700 million for the reconstruction, which in that case would take place between the years 2022 and 2025.

- We have identified Västerås as a suitable municipality for a larger overall exploitation with sustainable construction.

The inquiry's proposal is that the state should enter into an agreement with the City of Västerås and the Västmanland Region where the measures for rebuilding track facilities and travel centers in Västerås are given priority in the national transport plan, says Johan Edstav who is an investigator at the Government Offices in a press release.

The rebuilding of the railway yard is about increasing the number of tracks, building wider platforms, and bridges over the tracks.

In connection with the railway yard being rebuilt, the city's new travel center would also be built.
