Schwerin (dpa / mv) - In view of the increasing number of corona infections in the northeast, the state government is launching an advertising campaign for compliance with the protection rules.

Under the motto “I'll do it for us”, Christmas photo motifs are linked to information about the current regulations on the state government's website, as State Chancellor Heiko Geue (SPD) announced on Thursday.

The campaign is to be displayed in print media, on digital advertising space and in social media channels.

"The second wave of corona infections has now also arrived in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania," said Geue.

"Against this background, we want to use the campaign to ask and motivate the people in our country to consistently comply with the applicable corona protection rules, especially wearing a mask and keeping your distance."

Up to 140,000 euros are available for the campaign.

At the same time, Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) spoke out in favor of closing the retail trade before Christmas, on the 4th of Advent (December 20).

Grocery stores are said to be excluded.
