The 2021 European Figure Skating Championships, originally scheduled for January in Zagreb, are canceled due to the "deteriorating global health situation" in the face of Covid-19, the International Skating Federation (ISU) announced Thursday.

The ISU also highlights "the increased risks which result from it for the organizers and the participants".

The competition was scheduled to take place January 25-31 in the Croatian capital.

The 2020 Grand Prix final, until then postponed sine die and which was originally supposed to serve in December as a pre-Olympic event fourteen months away from the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, is this time definitively canceled, adds the international federation.

The 2021 World Championships, “are maintained” as planned at the end of March in Stockholm at this stage, specifies the ISU.
