Mainz / Berlin (dpa) - After the rampage in Trier with five dead and many injured, the Interior Ministers' Conference (IMK) wants to investigate whether indications of such acts of violence can be identified at an early stage.

A working group of the IMK should analyze this and examine whether nationwide coordinated indicators and action plans based on them can contribute to the prevention of amoktats and attacks.

A corresponding proposal from Rhineland-Palatinate had met with broad approval from his colleagues, said Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) on Thursday evening at the German Press Agency in Mainz.

There were parallels to the rampage in Trier in Münster 2018, Bottrop 2019 and in Hessian Volkmarsen 2020, cars were used everywhere. In Trier, the investigators continue to assume a lone perpetrator. According to previous knowledge, the suspect German had apparently deliberately run over people in an off-road vehicle at high speed in the pedestrian zone while drunk.
