Regensburg (dpa / lby) - A pensioner from Regensburg helped the police arrest a suspected fraudster.

The 29-year-old had called the 76-year-old woman and pretended to be a police officer, the police announced on Thursday.

At the end of November, he told her about alleged break-ins in the neighborhood and offered her to take care of her property.

First the woman gave him jewelry worth five digits.

When the 29-year-old called again, the pensioner became suspicious and called the police.

The officers arrested the man when he rang the woman's doorbell.

In his apartment, the investigators found all the valuables that the 76-year-old had given him and returned them.

According to the police, the 29-year-old is suspected of having committed further fraud in Regensburg.

He is now in custody.
