Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The left faction in the Hessian state parliament calls for more protection for tenants who are in financial need because of the corona pandemic.

“As a result of the Corona crisis, more and more people are having problems paying their rent on time.

There is a risk of dismissals and evictions, ”said the housing policy spokesman, Jan Schalauske, on Thursday in Wiesbaden.

Among other things, he called for evictions to be suspended, an immediate rental stop and the promotion of advice on tenancy law.

"Especially in the Corona crisis, the state government must finally show the political will to guarantee safe living for everyone," said Schalauske.

Hesse's Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) said that the scenarios outlined by the left had little to do with the real situation.

Fortunately, there have been few problems with rent debts as a result of the Corona crisis.

The minister said the social security systems in Hesse - such as short-time work benefits - took effect.
