Kulmbach (dpa / lby) - More than 30,000 supporters have signed a petition for the return of a deported man - now the 21-year-old should come back to Upper Franconia.

"In the morning he landed at Frankfurt Airport and is expected in his new home in Kulmbach," said Rainer Ludwig in a press release on Thursday.

The Free Voters' member of the state parliament campaigned for the return of the Afghans.

According to his supporters, Mohammad Zaki Sharifi fled to Iran with his family from the militant Islamist Taliban as a child, and then went on to Germany alone at the age of 16.

He lived in a dormitory for unaccompanied underage refugees and attended vocational school in Kulmbach.

Although he was accepted for a training position after graduating from school, he was deported to Afghanistan at the end of July 2019.

According to their own statements, a group of helpers started a petition to the Bavarian state parliament and collected around 4700 euros in donations.

The money was used to cover the young man's deportation costs - a condition for his re-entry.

The 21-year-old already has a rental agreement for a small apartment in the region and will soon begin his training as a system mechanic.
