Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - In the espionage trial against a 54-year-old man before the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Frankfurt, the verdict is to be announced on Friday next week (December 18).

The defendant is said to have provided the Indian foreign intelligence service with information about opposition groups abroad on a regular basis since 2015.

This involved members of the Sikh religious community and the Kashmir movement in Germany.

India and Pakistan each control part of the Himalayan region of Kashmir and reject calls for undivided and independent Kashmir.

The man denied these allegations in court.

The representative of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office has therefore demanded a suspended sentence of one year and a sum of 3,000 euros, the court said on Wednesday. The defense attorney, however, pleaded for acquittal.
