Ahmadreza Djalali was sentenced to death in Iran in 2017, and has since been imprisoned in the country.

His case has attracted a great deal of attention and several foreign authorities and Nobel laureates have committed themselves to Djalali's immediate release.

- He was convicted without any evidence and his life is in extreme danger, says Paolo Pomati at the University of Piomonte.

The Italian University is now organizing the marathon broadcast "Scientific & Academic Marathon for Ahdmadreza Djalali".

Djalali has been a researcher and teacher in, among other things, disaster medicine at the University of Piomonte.

- This marathon has three purposes;

to save Djalali's life and get him released, to say no to the death penalty in all countries, and to work to ensure that research is free from all influence, says Paolo Pomanti.

The wife's hopes for the authorities

Djalali was arrested after a conference in Iran in 2016. His wife Vida Mehrannia is grateful for all the support and hopes that the marathon broadcast will contribute to her husband's release.

- There is a great risk that the death penalty will be carried out.

We will fight every day for him to be released, she says in the live broadcast.
