Kiel (dpa / lno) - In view of the increasing number of infections, Schleswig-Holstein's state government wants to tighten its course significantly.

It is necessary “that we go into a hard lockdown by Christmas at the latest - to use the time over the turn of the year to stop this dangerous development in Germany,” said Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) Wednesday evening in Kiel.

The numbers continued to rise in the north, "and that unfortunately means that our strict measures are currently not having sufficient effect."

The head of government had previously spoken out in favor of a hard lockdown after Christmas.

The Jamaica coalition has already agreed to prohibit alcohol consumption in public.

The situation is dramatic, said Günther in the plenary.

According to the state government, 314 new corona cases were recently reported in Schleswig-Holstein within one day.

The highest number was announced on December 4th with 318 new infections.

The country has been a risk area since Sunday because the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants had risen to over 50 in the past seven days.

But the regional differences are great.
