A helicopter accident occurred Tuesday evening in Savoie, at an altitude of 1,800 meters, while six people were on board, we learned from the prefecture.

"A helicopter from (the private company) French Air Service, crashed around 7 p.m. with on board four members of the SAF and two rescuers from the CRS Alpes in the town of Bonvillard", near Albertville, said an official from the prefecture.

The pilot managed to eject himself

The alert was given around 7:10 p.m. by the pilot of the helicopter which managed to eject, said the prefecture.

Searches are underway to find the occupants of the aircraft.

Given the fog, three mobilized helicopters "cannot for the moment reach as close as possible to the place of the accident", but a ground intervention is also in progress, indicates the prefecture, specifying that more than 40 personnel are engaged in the search and rescue operations.

The SAF group (formerly French Air Relief) is a private company created in 1979. It owns around forty helicopters and operates in all the Alps, in Paris and in the South-West.

It carries out medical evacuations and on-piste rescue in ski resorts, transporting equipment and goods in the mountains, as well as tourism activities.

It also intervenes in the fight against fires with water bombers.
