Leverkusen (dpa) - The plastics group Covestro has increased its annual forecast because of a better than expected final quarter.

The Dax company announced on Tuesday in Leverkusen that the operating result (Ebitda) for 2020 is now expected to be between 1.44 and 1.5 billion euros.

Covestro had previously promised around 1.2 billion euros.

The company justified this with the better margin development for polyurethanes and polycarbonates.

The new forecast is also above analysts' expectations.

Covestro sees the volume trend in its core business continue to decline.

The decrease should amount to 5 to 6 percent.

Covestro plans to present its annual balance sheet on February 23.
