Around 500 people are now dying every day in connection with the corona virus - reason for some prime ministers to once again announce drastic restrictions on public life.

Does that bring anything and are the measures constitutional?

The constitutional lawyer Thorsten Kingreen from Regensburg is skeptical.

WORLD:

Mr. Kingreen, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) recently said: The number of daily corona deaths is now as high as if “a plane crashes every day”.

Does that justify the strong restrictions on fundamental rights that will apply in Bavaria from Wednesday?

Thorsten Kingreen:

Of course, every corona death is one too many.

But I think that is a very problematic rhetoric that stirs up more unrest than it brings benefits.

Serious assessments are based on excess mortality, which we do not yet know for December 2020.

WORLD:

People are no longer allowed to leave the house in future - unless they have a valid reason.

At the same time, the retail shops and hairdressers are still open.

Is that proportionate?
