A fire devastated the operation of Guillemette, in Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau -

Les jardins de Guillemette

  • A fire broke out last Monday on the farm of Guillemette, an organic farmer in the Nantes area.

  • In one week, his online jackpot has already raised more than 10,000 euros.

Everything went up in smoke in less than two hours.

Last week, a violent fire broke out at Jardins de Guillemette, in Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau in the Nantes agglomeration.

The 31-year-old farmer, settled here in September 2019, could not save much from her farm after the firefighters left.

“We lost everything,” she says.

My seeds, my tractor, my tools, the stock, the scale, the warehouse, our business… everything that has been part of my life for a little over a year, says Guillemette.

It's very hard psychologically.

"

The young woman, who produces about forty organic vegetables, says she has already struggled to launch her business, a professional retraining decided three years ago.

“There were storms, wild boars, delivery delays linked to Covid… We will say that I was not very lucky!

“After the passage of the experts, she now fears that the deadlines are too long and the reimbursements insufficient to calmly consider next season.

A pot and solidarity

So, she launched an online jackpot: in one week, more than 10,000 euros out of a target of 15,000 have already been collected.

Solidarity also comes from her neighboring farmers who offered her vegetables that she will be able to sell this week, and lent her equipment.

“Thanks to the prize pool, I will be able to order a tractor and tools in the coming days,” says Guillemette.

Then there will be a lot of administration and the reconstruction of the tunnel, I hope, in February.

I had not planned to give up but everything that is happening around me gives a lot of courage.
