Frankfurt / Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Despite the corona crisis, the number of bankruptcies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has fallen this year.

While 49 out of 10,000 companies in the northeast went bankrupt in 2019, this year it's only 38 out of 10,000, as the credit reporting agency Creditreform announced on Tuesday.

This put Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in twelfth place in a comparison of the federal states.

According to the information, the highest insolvency rate is in Bremen with a value of 98, followed by Berlin (78) and North Rhine-Westphalia (67).

The companies have so far proven to be the most stable in Thuringia with 30 insolvencies per 10,000 companies and Brandenburg with a value of 36. This is followed by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg with an insolvency rate of 38.

Nationwide, the number of bankruptcies has fallen to its lowest level since the early 1990s.

The significant decrease in company bankruptcies by 13.4 percent to an estimated 16,300 (previous year: 18,830) cases, however, "hide the real situation of the companies," said Creditreform.

State aid and relief in insolvency law eased the situation in 2020. “The recession is having a massive impact on the liquidity and financial situation, particularly for the catering, retail trade, and the trade fair, travel and event industries.

This will be reflected in the insolvency figures from next year on, ”predicted Creditreform.
