Feucht / Düsseldorf (dpa) - The police have arrested a suspected drug smuggler from Düsseldorf in Middle Franconia and confiscated almost 500,000 euros, which he is said to have received as wages for courier services.

The 31-year-old is suspected of smuggling up to 15 kilograms of cocaine via Austria to Italy on October 12, the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office announced on Monday.

Veil investigators checked him in Feucht in the district of Nürnberger Land when he was on the way back to his place of residence in Düsseldorf.

In doing so, they discovered two smuggling hiding places behind the rear lights of the car with the money distributed in 48 parcels.

The suspect is on remand.

Düsseldorf police officers searched the car dealer's apartment and seized cell phones, storage media, documents, some valuables and another 2,000 euros in cash.

As early as October 2019, veil investigators from the Raubling border police station had succeeded in confiscating around 12.5 kilograms of cocaine, which was also to be transported from Düsseldorf to Austria, as the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office further announced.

In this case too, according to the LKA information, the car was registered on the current suspect and equipped with professional smuggling hiding places.

The investigators say they want to find out what happened to the suspected 15 kilograms of cocaine and who the clients were.

The focus is on the greater Düsseldorf area, they explained.
