Dresden (dpa / sn) - According to media reports, there could be stricter protective measures against the spread of the corona pandemic in Saxony from next week.

Citing government circles, the "Bild" newspaper reported on Monday evening that it was being discussed to close shops from next Monday (December 14).

Only essential shops should - like in spring - remain open.

It is still unclear what exactly these are in addition to grocery stores.

Government spokesman Ralph Schreiber could not confirm the report that evening.

He pointed out that the cabinet wanted to meet on Tuesday to discuss the tightened corona protective measures.

Then key points for further measures and a timeline should be set, said Schreiber of the German press agency.

This could then be discussed by the parliamentary bodies.

Then a special session of the cabinet could take a decision on Friday.

The “Free Press” published in Chemnitz also reported online on Monday evening that the tightened measures will begin next week and last until January 10th.

The exact start is unclear, writes the paper, December 14th is considered a possible date.
