Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg Senate does not rule out that the Prime Ministers of the federal states will have to consult with the Chancellor again about the Corona situation before Christmas.

Such a round had already been agreed at the last conference in the event that “there are unforeseen developments requiring a decision,” said Senate spokesman Marcel Schweitzer on Monday.

The next few days will decide whether this is the case in view of the increasing number of infections.

The heads of government do not actually want to meet again until January 4th.

He expressed understanding for Bavaria's decision to take additional measures, "because the number of new infections there has not noticeably decreased since mid-November."

The infection rate in Germany varies from region to region, "but still too high overall," said Schweitzer.

The Senate will also examine "whether additional restrictions or regulations are necessary against the background of the current infection situation in Hamburg or due to nationwide decisions".

The mayor has already pointed out several times that a fundamental relaxation can not be assumed until the beginning of January.
