China News Service, December 7th. According to Peru’s “Gazette” report, on the 6th local time, there were 1,224 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia in Peru, with a total of more than 973,000 confirmed cases; 43 new deaths and 36,274 deaths.

As the epidemic curve slows, the Peruvian government intends to allow theaters, cinemas and other places to reopen.

On the other hand, the dean of the Peruvian Medical College (CMP) recently stated that it is expected that the government can only vaccinate about 750,000 people with the new crown before the Peruvian election in April 2021.

On November 2, 2020, local time, the well-known site Machu Picchu in Cusco, Peru ushered in the second day of restart.

Cinemas, theaters and casinos will reopen

According to a supreme decree issued by the Peruvian government in the official gazette on December 6, the government has authorized closed places such as cinemas, theaters, gyms, and casinos to reopen at 40% capacity.

At the same time, the Supreme Decree stipulates that if these activities are carried out in open spaces, the capacity can be increased.

For example, for theaters, shopping centers, and restaurants, the capacity can be increased to 60%.

However, the government still forces all people entering the premises to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and require companies to set up handwashing stations at the entrance.

This time, bars, nightclubs, karaoke and other places are still excluded.

On the evening of August 22, local time, the Peruvian police took a ban on a nightclub operating in violation of epidemic prevention regulations.

Vaccine 750,000 people in the first quarter of 2021

Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti recently stated that Peru is likely to start vaccinating the new crown at the end of December, calling this "the most complex logistical challenge that Peru has faced in recent years."

Miguel Palacios, Dean of the Medical College of Peru (CMP), pointed out that at the end of December, Peru could only obtain 50,000 doses of the new crown vaccine provided by Pfizer Laboratories, and 1.5 million doses of vaccine in the first quarter of 2021. Only 750,000 Peruvians can be vaccinated because Pfizer’s new crown vaccine requires two doses per person.

Miguel Palacios also said that the situation will be different if the government signs a new agreement with vaccine manufacturers to provide Peru with the millions of doses of vaccine needed.

But so far, Peru has only reached a binding final agreement with Pfizer and the Covax mechanism.

50% of workers in Lima are doing different jobs than before the epidemic

Due to the economic crisis caused by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, it is estimated that the average wage in Peru has fallen by about 15%.

Although more and more economic sectors have resumed activities, the employment rate is still lower than the level before the epidemic.

According to Peru's National Institute of Statistics (INEI), as of the third quarter of 2020, about 1.058 million people were unemployed in the capital Lima.

According to economist Jose Carlos, 50% of Lima workers have changed jobs.

The report pointed out that this change in the labor market may promote an increase in informal employment and a decrease in income.

It is estimated that the average wage in Peru in 2020 has dropped by about 15% compared to the same period in 2019.

This is consistent with the latest data from Peru’s National Bureau of Statistics, which shows that in the fourth quarter of 2020, the informal employment rate was 75.2%, which means that three-quarters of workers are engaged in informal work.
