Abu Dhabi to start automatic monitoring of phone and safety belt violations next January

The Government Support Department in Abu Dhabi, represented by the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, and in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police General Command, announced the completion of the Traffic Safety Model and the Reduction of Accidents by launching the (Vast) automatic monitoring system for phone and seat belt violations while driving, which will be implemented as of next January.

She stated that the system aims to enhance safety levels, maintain the safety of road users, drivers and passengers, increase awareness and educate the community on the importance of adopting safe driving practices, as part of the efforts to lead the digital future of the Abu Dhabi government and enable an innovative and effective digital government.

Abu Dhabi Police has developed a special radar system that takes high-resolution images under various circumstances, as the cameras work with artificial intelligence technology to analyze images and monitor if the driver does not use a seat belt or use a phone.

The system sends a notification to drivers in violation via SMS, urging them to correct the behavior in a timely manner while driving.

The Director General of the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, Eng. Mohamed Abdel Hamid Al-Askar, confirmed that the authority's cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police General Command comes within the framework of efforts to rely on data analysis processes and take advantage of the latest technologies to enable a proactive, specialized, integrated and safe digital government system.

He pointed out that the traffic safety model and the reduction of accidents contribute to reducing the rates of accidents and injuries to enhance traffic safety levels at the level of the emirate.

For his part, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, said that Abu Dhabi Police continues its efforts aimed at enhancing levels of safe traffic driving practices and protecting human lives by implementing traffic laws, regulations and rules, pointing out that the joint cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority enhances our vision To ensure the continuation of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as a safe and secure society.
