Düsseldorf (dpa) - The president and investor Mikhail Ponomarev will end his engagement with the third division soccer club KFC Uerdingen.

This was confirmed by the club of the German Press Agency on Sunday evening after "Rheinische Post" and "Westdeutsche Zeitung" reported on it.

The 46-year-old, who has invested several million euros in the club as an investor and club boss at the Krefeld team for almost five years, wants to retire as president by the end of the season at the latest.

«Maybe even earlier.

That depends on the discussions with the potential investors, ”said the 46-year-old who wants to sell his shares in KFC Uerdingen Entertainment GmbH.

"As soon as the deal is good for all sides, I will withdraw," Ponomarev told the two papers.

His plan to move up to the second division with the club within four years did not work out.

"We had a successful time, but unfortunately development has stagnated for various reasons," said the Russian.

In addition, the club also lacked support from the city of Krefeld.
