The National Memorial Day for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre in 2020 is approaching.

Ma Wenqian, the great-granddaughter of Ma Xiuying, a survivor of the Nanjing Massacre, said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from Chinanews.com that contemporary young people should be the new generation of peace messengers and inject positive energy into the world.

Ma Wenqian is a "post-90s", a native of Nanjing.

Her great-grandmother is Ma Xiuying, a survivor of the Nanjing Massacre who is nearly 100 years old this year.

When the Japanese army entered the city in 1937, Ma Xiuying was already a teenager.

Her third brother Ma Guanghong was captured by the Japanese army and never returned.

Ma Xiuying's leg was also stabbed by the Japanese army, leaving permanent scars.

Over the years, the great-grandmother was getting older and unable to personally attend the National Memorial Day ceremony. Ma Wenqian took over the "relay baton."

Ma Wenqian told reporters that she had often heard her great-grandmother talk about her family's experiences in the Nanjing Massacre.

"Usually grandma (great-grandmother) always mentioned that sad past. I went to visit her. Before leaving, she always took my hand and said:'Your peace and safety is my greatest wish.' My heart is mixed. Chen feels that he has the obligation to inherit this memory of his homeland and the world. This is not only the responsibility of the survivors’ offspring, but also the responsibility of contemporary young people.” Ma Wenqian said.

In college, Ma Wenqian served as a volunteer narrator at the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.

The "Cry of the Wronged Soul" sculpture, the national sacrifice tripod, the wall of disaster, the "boat of peace"... For more than a year, she explained the furnishings of the memorial to visitors from all over the world, from the descendants of Nanjing Massacre survivors The angle of view tells that period of sadness.

Once, she gave an explanation to Japanese visitors.

"They were speaking Japanese, their brows furrowed, and their expressions dignified. At that time, I was thinking, how did they feel when they came here? Will they bring this real history back to China, tell their relatives and friends, and wash away the history of tampering with the Japanese right. , Irresponsible remarks."

Ma Wenqian observed that more and more Japanese friendly people visited the memorial to learn about this history.

"I'm very willing to receive them. As a guide, I just want to sow the seeds of peace, and I hope they will join us."

In 2019, the Nanjing Massacre survivor's inheritance memory operation was launched, and Ma Wenqian volunteered to sign up to join.

"Inheriting the voice of peace is not a difficult task. This is something young people should do."

During the event, she participated in the collection of historical materials and condolences to the Nanjing Massacre survivors and their families.

"I am satisfied to see the happy smiles of (survivors) grandparents and grandparents. This is my motivation. I hope that the elderly will be relieved to see the light of future generations.

In the process, she met many like-minded friends.

This made her realize that contemporary young people have the ability to shoulder the mission of passing on history and passing on peace.

With the accumulation of knowledge and the growth of experience, Ma Wenqian has a deeper understanding of the history of the Nanjing Massacre: Remember, not to remember the hatred, but to remember the good and precious homeland.

"Human beings have the same home on the earth. Peace, progress, and development are the eternal themes of human society." Ma Wenqian said, "As a young generation, we must not forget those who lost their lives in the flames of war. We must not let down those who gave precious lives for the cause of peace. People. We must guard this unforgettable memory, defend the undeniable truth, and maintain the hard-won peace. The sound of peace is a voice with a sense of responsibility; peace is hard to come by, and we need to guard it carefully." (End)
