Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is drawing conclusions from the corona pandemic for future elections and parliamentary work.

For the plenary session that begins on Wednesday, the state parliament in Schwerin has a draft law and an application that will enable low-contact procedures and thus also ensure higher protection against infection.

In extreme cases, it should be possible to vote only by postal vote without visiting a polling station.

To this end, the government factions of the SPD and CDU are striving to change the state and local electoral law.

In order to be able to adhere to the constitutional requirements for election dates, for example, the Ministry of the Interior should be allowed to issue special regulations by ordinance.

The next state election is scheduled to take place in 2021, probably together with the federal election on September 26th.

The necessary decision is still pending.
