The General Administration of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, in Dubai, stated that it launched about 168 initiatives to make its employees happy, including daily monitoring of the employee's happiness before he goes home.

The Director General of the Department, Major General Mohamed Ahmed Al-Marri, said that human resources are the basis for the development of the department, so it was keen to provide a stimulating work environment, supportive of it in all respects.

Al-Marri explained to “Emirates Today” that the human being is the main axis in the development of countries and societies, and the establishment of Dubai aims to provide all the elements of work, including a positive environment, training programs, psychological preparation, and everything that enables him to perform his duties while he is happy, as he is the backbone. For the administration to become permanent and stable to achieve the desired results, and for the UAE to be the main axis always at the forefront of countries.

For its part, the head of happiness and quality of life in the administration, Maryam Abdulrasoul Abu Al-Maleh, said that the happiness rate among employees increased this year to reach 91%, compared to 82% in 2016.

She stated that the administration adopts several methods to measure the happiness rate of its employees, as their happiness rate is measured on a daily basis in all organizational units in the administration, and the results are presented directly to the leaders, to take the necessary improvement measures, and the indicator is measured through the “My Kafaati” program, as it is conducted. Management, also, non-timed questionnaires are launched to measure happiness in specific areas in detail, such as: "Health Care Questionnaire, Happiness Card Questionnaire, and Work Environment Questionnaire".

She added, "An annual questionnaire is launched by the Executive Council, with the aim of measuring the percentage of employee happiness in government agencies, and determining the level of Dubai residence among other government agencies, through the questionnaire questions specified with 34 questions, through a link sent on the employees' phones."

The methods of measuring employee happiness also include an annual questionnaire launched by Dubai Residence, with the aim of developing and improving the services provided to employees, through questionnaire questions, as it is analyzed at the level of organizational units, and opportunities for improvement are included in the plans of organizational units to work on covering observations.

She pointed out that the administration has adopted policies that support job happiness, most notably: flexible working hours, remote work, happy hours, an open door policy, honoring methodology, and flexibility in the shift system.

Abu Al-Maleh mentioned that several programs have been implemented to achieve job happiness, most notably: The Charter for the Happiest Work Environment at the level of organizational units, which includes 184 initiatives, a learning and development initiative for support departments, and includes nine initiatives, and a program to spread the culture of happiness and quality of life and includes eight exercises. Electronic programs and applications, such as the “My Competence” program, which provides 45 services, and the “My Platform” application, which provides 105 services, in addition to the “Ithraa” platform for continuing education that provides 396 courses annually to employees.

And she continued: "Happiness initiatives and practices also include (happiness meeting with management leaders), 11 health care initiatives, honoring employees financially and morally, improving and developing the work environment, and the group wedding.

She indicated that the administration also implements about 19 initiatives for people of determination annually, in addition to eight initiatives for women, and participation in volunteer work, in addition to 16 other community initiatives.

She said that the administration also applies a qualitative system of rewards and incentives for employees, job excellence, and reward for the most productive employee, with the aim of encouraging everyone to raise their productivity, stressing that these initiatives have greatly contributed to raising the productivity of all employees of the department.

She emphasized that the administration has not forgotten the group working for it to allocate happiness programs to it, as the administration is working to send them on external entertainment trips, celebrate them on the International Workers' Day, distribute Ramadan gifts, and provide all the necessary training programs for them.
