Regional elections are due to take place this Sunday, December 6 in Cameroon, but the population is not very concerned about the ballot.
In particular because it is the great voters who are called to vote and not the general population, which rather has in mind the organization of the end of year celebrations in a difficult economic context.

This Saturday, the central market in Yaoundé, the capital of
Cameroon
, is in full swing.
The excitement is not due to
the regional elections
scheduled for the next day, but rather to the Christmas celebrations, which take place in three weeks.
"
What are the children going to eat at Christmas?"
There are the holidays that are coming, the end of the year is just around the corner… The regional ones, really, it's the last of the worries, it's the last thing we think about at the moment,
”says a hairdresser whose thoughts are turned towards the organization of the big family meal.
Finding a small gift for the children, a nice outfit or even a tree, it will be a little more difficult for this client this year, more concerned by the economic difficulties than by the ballot.
“
This is not what will bring about the change we are expecting so that interests us very little.
(…) With the Covid-19 which has drastically blocked the economy, it's hard,
”he explains.
Sitting in front of his shop, a seller is also worried about the economic difficulties, which are at the heart of his concerns.
“
Life is expensive, there is no money, no work and a lot of problems… The elections, that cannot have an impact,
” he says.
For this Cameroonian, these regional councils are seen as a new administrative level which will not bring any change to their difficult daily life.
