Munich (dpa) - Thomas Müller and his Bayern colleagues were just as exhausted as the big challengers from RB Leipzig.

In a fast-paced top game, the two currently best teams in the Bundesliga fought a thrilling battle of strength.

Ex-world champion Müller saved Munich from 3: 3 (2: 2) with two goals from falling from the top of the table.

With the draw, the German series champion saved the two-point lead over the Saxons, who presented themselves as real title rivals.

Effort and effectiveness voted against Bayern for a long time, where the defense weakened once again and, exceptionally, including goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Christopher Nkunku (19th minute) Justin Kluivert (36th) and Emil Forsberg (48th) ensured the first Leipzig Bundesliga goals in Munich.

The actually more rested people from Munich were also not at the height of their skills offensively in many phases.

Youngster Jamal Musiala (30th) and veteran Thomas Müller (35th and 75th) scored for the triple winner.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick had announced the top game for an evening for "Champions".

The still untitled Leipziger presented themselves as real challengers.

Although coach Julian Nagelsmann declared the upcoming and decisive Champions League game against Manchester United to be the "more important game", the Saxons did not take a conservative stance.

They stressed the more rested Bavarians with a lot of running effort and aggressiveness.

A high-intensity top game developed with high speed, high energy wear and also rough duels.

The Bavarians needed some start-up time to find gaps in the rooms that were well lined up by the Leipzigers, especially in the center.

And the Saxons kept switching brilliantly.

In the 2nd minute, captain Marcel Sabitzer shot the crossbar.

Munich's defensive weaknesses revealed themselves when conceding goals.

Emil Forsberg sent Nkunku wonderfully steep on the counterattack - and national goalkeeper Neuer failed when he ran out, but straddled into the void.

The best offensive in the league struck back with a double strike.

First, the 17-year-old Musiala, who replaced the injured Javi Martínez (groin) early, hit with a low shot.

Then Müller successfully completed a Bayern play over Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman.

Flick cheered on the edge of the field - and only seconds later was annoyed again after Kluivert's 2-2 easily scored 2-2.

The 21-year-old scored his first competitive goal for RB after being passed by Amadou Haidara.

The Leipzig team uncovered Bayern's defensive vulnerability even after the break.

Forsberg was able to head a wonderfully struck cross from Angelino in the center - Jérôme Boateng and Niklas Süle did not have the Swedes on their radar.

It was a real hit.

Bayern's rearing up was surprisingly weak.

The substitution of Serge Gnabry for the ineffective Leroy Sané also fizzled out.

But Bayern had Coman and Müller.

The French, involved in all three goals, crossed precisely into the penalty area, where Müller headed unhindered to make it 3: 3.
