While Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are already preparing the plan to fight the coronavirus epidemic which will come into force on the day of their inauguration on January 20, Donald Trump is going back to campaign.

The outgoing president is expected this Saturday in Georgia, where a crucial by-election will take place on January 5: two Senate seats are at stake. If the Republicans lose, the upper house of Congress will then be controlled by the Democrats.

But Donald Trump's visit to Georgia raises "

concern

 " among Republicans, observes

Politico

who wonders: "

Does the president understand that his mission will be to help the two outgoing Republican senators to be re-elected and not to settle accounts ?

 ".

Allen Peake, a former Georgia elected official and self-proclaimed “

traditional Republican

”, tells the news site his anguish: “

If the president comes to attack our Republican Governor Brian Kemp and our Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger for their role in supervising the elections in Georgia which Donald Trump narrowly lost to Joe Biden, then the rally will be a disaster

 ”.

Like Georgia's elected Republican officials, the conservative press is also worried

Without any foundation, the president's lawyers accuse senior officials of the Republican Party in Georgia of having prevented Donald Trump from winning,

" notes the

New York Post.

“

And they are doing it right at a time when the Republican Party needs the support of every voter to keep them in control of the Senate.

One would almost be tempted to think that Donald Trump's lawyers are working secretly on behalf of the Democrats,

 ”the tabloid said ironically.

The very conservative

Washington Examiner

goes even further: “

If the president took our advice and conceded victory to Joe Biden - now, right away - he could help Republicans win the Senate election.

He could then ask to vote for outgoing Georgia senators in order to control the future Biden administration.

And above all Donald Trump could argue that voting for the two Republican senators would be crucial to preserve his legacy.

But the president

 ”, concludes the daily,“

unfortunately seems to take another path

 ”.

Brazil: if nothing is done, the country risks a general blackout

The reason for this energy supply crisis?

An exceptional drought that causes historically low levels of hydroelectric dams, the main source of energy in Brazil.

This was explained on Thursday by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, and the Brazilian president.

Jair Bolsonaro called on Brazilians to save electricity: "

Turn off a light in your home now,

" said the head of state, quoted by

O Globo.

Switch on the air conditioning later

".

The newspaper

Estadao

explains that the Brazilian government is faced with a difficult choice: go towards a generalized blackout or opt for energy from thermoelectric power stations.

But this option is more expensive and the bill for Brazilian households will therefore be higher from this December.

A very unpopular measure as a growing part of the population fights daily for its survival in the midst of the health and economic crisis due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Haiti: government management in the face of increasingly contested rampant insecurity

This Thursday evening, a large demonstration of several thousand people took place in Jérémie, capital of the department of Grand'Anse on the southern peninsula of the country.

For months, armed robberies, kidnapping attempts, telephone threats have been raging in the city of poets,

 " reports

Le Nouvelliste.

The people are angry.

In the absence of the state, some protesters say they are ready to crack down on criminals themselves.

 Our only fear

,” explains a protester in the newspaper columns, “

is to have to respond to violence with violence.

We do not want to arrive at such a scenario

”.
