The CSA granted Canal + a new authorization to broadcast on DTT on Friday, for a period of three years, until December 6, 2023, the regulator and the encrypted channel announced on Friday in press releases.

This announcement was made when the current authorization of Canal + to broadcast its programs on TNT expired this weekend.

The CSA specifies that this sesame is accompanied by a new convention, in which "the main part" of the existing obligations of the chain were renewed.

However, in this new convention (document which codifies the obligations and commitments of the TV channels and which the CSA ensures the application), certain commitments of Canal + have been reinforced: in terms of accessibility of its programs "in particular during the hours. listening ", or" on investment in local overseas production, "said the regulator.

For its part, Canal + relativized the scope of this news by recalling that TNT "concerns a little less than 5% of its French subscribers", after explaining that this technology had lost a lot in attractiveness, compared to other modes of distribution (internet or others).

After having blown hot and cold for months on its intentions concerning its maintenance on digital terrestrial television, Canal + had nevertheless applied this summer to the renewal of its authorization to broadcast on TNT, which expired on December 5 , or Saturday.

It was moreover the only one to have expressed its interest in its hertzian frequency, reserved by the CSA for a pay channel.

But during a hearing by the seven wise men of the Superior council of audio-visual, at the end of September, the boss of the Canal + group Maxime Saada had raised the threat of a departure of the hertzian waves, if he did not obtain relaxations regulatory and fiscal.
