The head of state gave an interview to the online media Brut on Friday.

An interview of about 2h30 to address young people, which was broadcast on non-stop news channels and which, ultimately, affects many more French people than the "Covid generation" alone.

DECRYPTION

If young people do not come to Emmanuel Macron, it is Emmanuel Macron who will go to young people.

The president gave a lively interview to online media Brut on Friday.

For 2:30, the Head of State addressed subjects as varied as police violence, the Algerian war, the climate, glyphosate, the coronavirus, or even the Uyghurs.

While he has addressed the French several times in recent months via televised speeches, Emmanuel has this time chosen to think outside the box.

The "Covid generation" in the sights

A choice that should allow it to reach young people, a population that is much less informed through traditional media than the rest of the French.

This age group indeed prefers online media like Brut, Konbini, or social networks.

It is therefore indeed to this "Covid generation" that the Head of State addressed himself.

"We must measure what this generation has taken", explained the head of state.

"She was born with the terrorism of the towers [September 11, 2001, editor's note], suffered one of the great economic and financial crises up to now, also had to know the awareness of the climate drama ... He There is still plenty to ask geopolitical and personal questions. "

However, Emmanuel Macron assures him, this generation "is not confused but in search of meaning".

Compared to a traditional interview, the language is more direct, sometimes even flowery, as when the head of state mentions the police.

"These are people whose kids are pissed off at school. Sorry for talking like that ... [whose] children are harassed by other children, accused because the parents are police officers."

A much larger audience than expected

If the shape changes, the background remains the same.

And all the themes addressed by Emmanuel Macron could have been in traditional media.

Moreover, they do not only concern the young generation.

Moreover, on Brut's Twitter, Facebook and Youtube accounts, only 60,000 people followed the interview with the Head of State.

A figure that must however be put into perspective since this interview was also broadcast live on the four news channels continuously and relayed by all other French media.

This interview therefore touches many more people than what was initially planned.
