Mülheim / Ruhr (dpa) - The A40 near Mülheim has been fully closed for ten days since Friday evening.

The lock started at 8 p.m., said a spokesman for the Düsseldorf police.

The reason is construction work on railway bridges after a tanker truck fire under a bridge in mid-September.

Drivers should avoid the area extensively.

The closure between Kreuz Kaiserberg and Mülheim-Styrum should end at 5 a.m. on December 14th at the latest.

Two bridges are being torn down.

They were badly damaged in the fire.

At the accident site, a makeshift bridge will also be used instead of a third bridge that has already been demolished.

It consists of four individual parts and should be ready for use on December 28th.

Eight demolition excavators are to demolish the bridges.

The railway expects around 200 truckloads of rubble.

Because the demolition will cause damage to the asphalt, the road surface will also have to be renewed afterwards.

The four bridge sections are then lifted into place with a 750-tonne crane.

Each part is 26 meters long and weighs around 80 tons.

Rail traffic between Essen and Duisburg has been suspended since Wednesday evening.

The main reason is expansion work that has been planned for a long time for the new electronic interlocking in Duisburg.

Rail traffic is scheduled to start again on December 7th at 4:00 a.m.

The trains use an undamaged bridge in the area of the accident site.
