Baden-Baden (dpa) - For the first time in nine years, the album of the year in Germany comes from foreign musicians: The Australian cult rockers from AC / DC lead the official German annual charts 2020 with their album "Power Up".

Last year the most popular album came from Rammstein, before that Helene Fischer (2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2013), Udo Lindenberg (2016) and Die Toten Hosen (2012) prevailed.

2011 landed with Adele ("21") a British woman at number one in the LP annual charts.

The most successful song of 2020, the hit of the year, comes from a Canadian: the 1980s-sounding synth pop song "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd.

In the singles category, the song “Dance Monkey” by the Australian singer-songwriter Tones And I, which was released in May 2019, lands third. The hip-hop hit “Roller” by the Ludwigshafen rapper Apache 207 took third place.

AC / DC's “Power Up” was released on November 13th and immediately became the band's sixth number one record in Germany.

It is also the first album since guitarist Malcolm Young's death at the age of 64 in 2017 and marks the return of iconic singer Brian Johnson, 73, bassist Cliff Williams, 70, and drummer Phil Rudd, 66.

As the data from GfK Entertainment showed, “Power Up” sold around 160,000 times in Germany in the first seven days.

For comparison: Rammstein as the 2019 winner even had 260,000 units sold in the first week.

AC / DC singer Johnson left the band in 2016 because of severe hearing problems.

"When you are told that you have to stop, it feels like you have no legs, it's terrible," said the 73-year-old of the German press agency.

“Fortunately, I just covered myself with a bottle of whiskey.

I didn't do drugs, I didn't need a psychiatrist.

I told myself I have to be strong now. "

The unexpected comeback at AC / DC was now possible because a specialist had developed a hearing aid for Johnson.

The front man raves about a “wonderful invention”.

Behind the English-speaking hard rockers, the top 10 most successful albums in 2020 will again be quite German: Böhse Onkelz (“Böhse Onkelz”) came in second, followed by Sarah Connor (“Herz Kraft Werke”).

Fourth place went to Die Ärzte (“Hell”), fifth place went to the Vox show album “Sing my Song - Das Tauschkonzert, Vol.7” with hosts Michael Patrick Kelly and Max Giesinger, LEA, Nico Santos, Jan Plewka, Ilse DeLange and MoTrip.

It follows on the six of the musician and Youtuber Fynn Kliemann («Pop»).

The US metal band Metallica (“S & M2”) took seventh place, Kerstin Ott (“I have to tell you something”) ranked eighth, followed by Thomas Anders and Florian Silbereisen (“Das Album”) in ninth place and the Rapper Bonez MC ("Hollywood") on the ten.
